Torque limiting knobs, wing nuts and wing screws are used in industrial applications where it is crucial that the knob is not overtightened. They contain a special limiting mechanism to ensure or limit manually-applied torque and prevent overtightening. Once the desired torque is reached, the mechanism will release and will not tighten further, no matter how much the knob is turned. The desired torque is either preset, or there are types with an adjustable torque. Torque limiting knobs with this mechanism are manufactured from plastic, and include knurled, triangular and tristar options, as well as those with a threaded stud.
